Professional education in Civil Engineering, Technical University of Delft in 1979, specialisation Structures of Buildings. In 1979 he started to work at ABT in Arnhem, one of the bigger consulting engineering firms in the Netherlands. In 1990 he became Consulting Engineer and in 1997 Director of ABT. In this career a number of special projects were undertaken. The Educatorium building in Utrecht (architect OMA) and the Dutch Pavilion for the World Exhibition in Hannover (architect MVRDV) are good examples amongst them. Recently the new Library of the Utrecht University (architect Wiel Arets) and the Almere Theatre (architect Kazuyo Sesjima) were finished. Now the Museum aan de Stroom in Antwerp (architect Willem Jan Neutelings) is under construction. Beside working with “normal” structural materials like steel, concrete, wood and brickwork, the material glass has his special interest. He made some quite nice structures in glass and published a book about structural glass “Glass in structures” at the Birkhäuser Publishing in Basel. He gave a number of lectures at various Universities and is now a part time professor in Structural Design at the University of Delft.
