Studied architecture and engineering at Ghent University, and architectural history at the Dipartimento di Storia dell’architettura, IUAV, Venice. In 1998 he completed a Ph.D. at the Technical University of Eindhoven. He held study residencies in Prague, at the Academia Belgica in Rome, and was a visiting Scholar, 1998-1999, and an Associate Scholar, 2002-2003, at the Canadian Centre for Architecture, Montréal.
Since 1992 he is an Associate Professor in architectural history and architectural design at the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning, Ghent University, Belgium.
From 2003 till 2005 he was Chief Curator at the Canadian Centre for Architecture, Montréal and the Director of IRHA, the Institut de Recherche en Histoire de l’Architecture,.
He has lectured at various universities, including IUAV, Columbia University, I.I.T., McGill and University of Toronto.
