Johan Silfwerbrand - structural engineer

Johan Silfwerbrand is since 2002 president of the Swedish Cement and Concrete Research Institute (CBI) in Stockholm. He is also a part-time professor in Structural Design and Bridges at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm.


Jonas Silfwerbrand was born in 1948.
He received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees at KTH in 1982 and 1987, respectively, and has been visiting scholar at the University of Texas at Austin and visiting research associate at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Assignments:
Member of ACI (American Concrete Institute) Committees 546, Repair of Concrete; 345, Bridge Construction and Maintenance; the International Committee, and the Fellows Nomination Committee; and a consulting member of ACI Committee 342, Evaluation of Concrete Bridges and Concrete Bridge Elements.

Between 2000 and 2005, Silfwerbrand was president of the Swedish Concrete Association. Since 1998, he is Swedish delegate in the International Federation for Structural Concrete (fib). He is also active in the Réunion Internationale des Laboratoires d'Essais et de Recherches sur les Matériaux et les Constructions (RILEM). He has frequently been a member of Scientific Committees of international conferences and symposia.

Awards:
Sigge Thernwall´s award for research and development in civil engineering, the Stockholm City Invention Scholarship, and the KTH Award for distinguished contributions within the undergraduate education. In April 2005, he received the degree of Fellow of ACI and in November 2005 he received the same degree in the Swedish Concrete Association.

Silfwerbrand’s research interests include concrete pavements, concrete block pavements, concrete repair, industrial floors, and steel fiber reinforced concrete structures.
