Tarla MacGabhann - architect

Born 1965 in County Donegal.
Graduated from the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London, in 1992. After working as a senior architect with Daniel Libeskind on the Jewish Museum, Berlin (1992-1997), he returned to Donegal and formed MacGabhann Architects with his brother.
He has taught at HdK Berlin (1995-1997) and Queen's University Belfast (since 1998). He presented the HdK students' Hard Core City, a theoretical alternative urban plan for Berlin at the UIA Congress in Barcelona, 1996.

Projects & Prizes

Tarla MacGabhann received a 'Simplicity & Complexity Prize' from Japan Architect in 1995 for the renovation and extension of an old farmhouse in Ireland.
All of MacGabhann Architects' recent award-winning works are situated in County Donegal. The Letterkenny civic offices received awards from both the Architectural Association of Ireland (AAI) and the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI), while social housing in Ramelton was commended by the RIAI. The Carton LeVert house in Rathmullen received the RIAI's Best Building in the Landscape Award, 2003. Construction of an arts centre in Letterkenny is scheduled to begin in 2004.
