Guy Châtel (°1956)
Graduated as an engineer-architect from the Ghent University (UGent, B) in 1980. He was laureate of the competition “Minister P. Akkermans” in 1987 and won a Belgian Architectural Award 2000. His work was published (a.o. in A+, Abitare, de Architect, Flanders Architectural Yearbook) and exhibited (“Homeward, Contemporary Architecture in Flanders” Antwerp, Bordeaux, Rome, Venice, Plymouth, 2000). He founded “ssa/xx” in 2000 and works in association with engineer-architect and landscape architect Kris Coremans since 2002. Their work was nominated for the triennial “Prix Georges de Hens 2004” and for the biennial “European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award 2007”, selected for the Belgian Architectural Awards 2005 and published in a.o. Flanders Architectural Yearbook ’04-05, A+, Oase, World Architecture Magazine.
Guy Châtel is Associate Professor in architectural sciences and architectural design at UGent-Department of Architecture and Urban Planning. He publishes on architecture and visual arts in books and magazines (a.o. in A+, Janus, DWB, AS, Cahiers Thématiques AVH, Interstices, Oase).
