deSingel, Antwerpen host for the Concrete Design Master Class on Implicit Performance

We are very happy to announce that the host for the upcoming master class for laureates will de deSingel in Antwerp, Belgium. They generously provide ample spaces for us to work, eat and have lectures. The available work spaces include a covered outside space for us to actually work with concrete.

deSingel’s intention is to become a vigorous and large-scale arts campus that presents and produces contemporary and international art and makes it accessible to the broadest possible audience.
The artistic disciplines to which deSingel has committed itself are theatre, dance, music and architecture. Its core task is to show and offer support to the production of contemporary international art. This involves the work of both foreign artists and companies and work from Belgium that seeks to connect up with the international nature of its operations. Presentation and production (and coproduction) take place in the context of cohesive program entities and are underpinned for the audience by means of information and education.
As a large-scale, international, multidisciplinary arts campus, deSingel operates on the basis of a unique infrastructure: a medium-sized concert hall (968 seats), a large hall for theatre and dance (801 seats) and a small hall for talks (90 seats). Architectural exhibitions are held in the corridors.

November 27, 2007 - Presentation at Turin Politecnico

On November 27th Annalisa Torta the second prize winner of the Concrete Design Competition on plastic-OPACITY (2005/2006)presented her awarded project to an audience of students at Turin Politecnico Faculty of Architecture and talked about her experience in the Master Class at the Bauhaus Dessau in August 2006.

At the same session Maria Teresa Briotti (national coordinator for Italy) presented the current competition cycle: Implicit Performance to lecturers and students of the Project Unit:“Architectonic materials and quality– Architecture in exposed concrete” of the Specialist Degree in Constructions. It is a degree course run by the 1st Faculty of Architecture of Turin’s Polytechnic in conjunction with lecturers S.L. Pagliolico, N. Maritano Comoglio, A. Lacirignola, who coordinate the Modules “Science and Technology of concrete” and “Experimenting with concrete”.

The Project Unit has already experimented with innovative methods such as learning by doing: learning through putting things into practice, handling, acting on and experimenting with real materials to make physical objects whilst at the same time understanding, analysing and elaborating the results obtained on a theoretical level. This is the experience-based educational strategy adopted by the Architecture Faculties of Turin’s Polytechnic. The two course levels, namely the three-year degree and the specialist degree, will enable students to take part in Workshops, architectural and technological design Units and work placements.
